Passed eJPT. What an experience!

March 24, 2019

Wow. This exam (and the training course) was incredible. I just finished the test today and I'm very heppy to report that I passed! It was frustrating as hell at times, and it took me about 11 hours or so to finish it, but it was an amazing experience.

First, I want to talk about eLearnSecurity. There's pros and cons to them. I almost didn't even bother signing up with them because they put me through so much just to even get the study material. They wanted a copy of my drivers license and a lot of other nonsense justs for the study material. It took almost a full week of going back and forth with their support team before I got access to it. If it wasn't for the fact that they were so highly recommended from the tech community I'm a part of, I would've assumed they were a scam and would've never signed up. Luckily though... it eventually all got sorted out.

This was hands down the BEST labs I've ever used. There's 3 ways to study. There's a PDF (which was informative, but kind of boring), then there were videos to watch (which were pretty good), but the labs were definitely what kept me motivated. Fully hands-on labs and it's not little simulations or click and drag. They actually give you a VPN file (open VPN) and then you log on and that's how you do the lab.

The exam for the eJPT is a 100% practical exam. You have 3 days of pentesting. To be honest, you can probably do it in maybe 7 hours if you fully understand the material. In my case, I got stuck a couple of times so it took me a little longer. They give you very limited information and you're just on your own to figure everything out. This isn't bad though. You really learn and understand how things works when you're put in that situation.

eLearnSecurity certifications still aren't as well known as the CEH or OSCP, but I think that will change very soon. Their certifications and study material are pretty expensive though so I'm not sure if I'll be able to really afford to take anymore of their training and certifications (unless I can get my job to pay for it), but if you have the money, I'd HIGHLY recommend them.
